Finally, the core room. General Kael stood on a gantry, his own arm fused with the God Hammer’s trigger. He was a giant, his skin flayed and replaced with woven circuitry. He laughed.
Kael fired a volley of energy bolts from his chest. Nakamura pirouetted, using the Leash to pull a heavy cargo container in front of her as a shield. The bolts ricocheted, punching through a Brute’s skull. “Mirror Match! +250!” bulletstorm
“No speeches,” Nakamura said. “Just the end.” Finally, the core room
The Hammer fired.
She snapped the Leash toward the shield. It latched onto a single loose bolt. She yanked. The shield spiraled off its axis, clattering to the floor. Kael’s eye went wide. He laughed
“Welcome to the Party,” a voice slurred from her comm. It belonged to a grizzled man in a duster, hanging upside down from a tangle of cables. He was eating a protein bar. “Name’s Meridian. You’ve got a Leash. Don’t point it at anything you don’t want to explode.”
There was no scream. Just a flash of white light, a wet thwump , and a rain of ash.
