LaRue reportedly yelled, “Y’all forgot my extra pickles, so here’s a gator on the house.” He then attempted to drive away but was blocked by the Calhoun vehicle. Witness Calhoun stated, “I saw him pull it out of the truck bed. It wasn’t tied up or anything. I screamed.”

FL-0420-26-069 DATE OF INCIDENT: April 14, 2026 TIME: 01:47 AM (EST) LOCATION: [REDACTED] Fast Food Drive-Thru, 8900 Tamiami Trail, Sarasota County, FL REPORTING OFFICER: Deputy M. Hendricks, SCSO

Upon detention, LaRue was found to have a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.18. In a sworn statement, he said, “I caught it in my pool last night. It was acting mean. The drive-thru guy said ‘have a good one,’ but I wanted him to have a real Florida memory.” He later added, “I didn’t throw it at anyone. I threw it through . There’s a difference.”

At approximately 01:47 hours, deputies responded to a 911 call reporting “an alligator thrown through a drive-thru window” at the above location. Upon arrival, officers observed a live, unrestrained alligator inside the restaurant’s order pick-up area, cornered behind a beverage station. The animal was secured by Sarasota County Animal Services / FWC at 02:12 and transported to a rehabilitation facility.

Investigation determined that suspect LaRue was driving a 2015 Ford F-150 (FL tag: GTR-H8NT) through the drive-thru. Surveillance footage shows LaRue lean out of the driver’s side window, holding the alligator by the tail. He then swung and released the animal head-first through the open pick-up window, striking the interior counter.
