Of course, as any cynic (or romantic) knows, the heart doesn't read contracts. What elevates OK Jaanu from a standard urban romance is its parallel narrative—the subplot of the elderly couple living upstairs: Ganpat ji and his wife, who is silently slipping into Alzheimer's disease. Played with profound grace by Naseeruddin Shah and the late Leela Samson (reprising the roles originally played by Prakash Raj and Leela Samson in Tamil), this couple represents the "old school" love. Ganpat ji painstakingly writes "I love you" on a boiled egg for his wife every morning, even though she often forgets who he is.
