Mira ran. She dove through the gate, felt the cold wash of the wormhole, and emerged on the Hammond ’s gate room floor. Alarms blared. Red light pulsed. And on every display, on every screen, the same symbol was repeating: a spiral with seven arms, each arm terminating in a question mark.

Mira felt the floor shift beneath her feet—not physically, but existentially. She had spent her life believing the universe was knowable. Equations. Data. Cause and effect. This creature was talking about nightmares given flesh. Mira ran
“The others sealed him away,” the librarian continued. “They collapsed the gates. They scattered the crystals. And then they did the only thing they could do to protect the rest of creation: they stopped listening. They became what you would call ‘dark energy.’ The force that pushes your universe apart.
